On illness and death in prison
Already a long-term witness of the ravages of illness in the prison environment (from Je hais les matins / I hate mornings to Chroniques carcérales / Prison chronicles) Rouillan speaks from first-hand experience here – his own. For he suffers from the Chester Erdheim syndrome, an orphan illness diagnosed just in time, but one that put his life in the balance.
These accounts are also the occasion to go over his months of semi-liberty and take a look at the outside world, together with the type of liberty currently available there, through his militant revolutionary’s gaze. In a preface that provides a follow-on to that of De Mémoire tome 2 / From Memory volume 2, the publishers look back over the conditions of his semi-liberty, the malfunctions of the judicial system, and their own day-to-day perception of a colleague emerging from 20 years of incarceration.
Jann-Marc Rouillan, imprisoned for more than twenty years for his activities with Action Directe, was allowed semi-liberty from December 2007 until October 2008. During that period, he worked for Agone Publishers.
His main publications are: Je hais les matins (Denoël, 2001), Le Roman du Gluck (L’Esprit frappeur, 2003), Le Capital humain (L’Arganier, 2007) and with Agone, Lettre à Jules (2004), La Part des loups (2005), De Mémoire tome 1 & De Mémoire tome 2 (2007 et 2009), Chroniques carcérales (2008).
